Right around the time most of us were working our way out a holiday eating induced malaise, we got the happy news that Matthew McConaughey and his wife, Camila Alves, welcomed their third child, Livingston, on December 28th.
If Livingston sounds familiar — as it should — it’s because there happen to be, oh, half a dozen American cities that share the same name. The United States boasts a Livingston in Alabama, California, New Jersey, Texas, Montana and Tennessee.
Which got us thinking to some more of our other favorite celebrity baby names inspired by real-life places in the past few years (Paris Hilton, not included). Check out our comprehensive list below.
1.) Egypt. Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz named their son after this African country in October 2010. “I took an important trip for myself to Egypt,” she told Complex magazine in November. “When we found out I was pregnant, my husband said, ‘Egypt was such an important time for you. That really changed your life. Wouldn’t that be amazing as a name?’ Once he said that, I was like, ‘Yes.’ ”
2.) Bronx. Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz named their son after this borough in New York City in November 2008, yet the couple have yet to reveal what drew them to the gritty uptown NYC area.
3.) Morocco. Mike Tyson and wife Lakiha Spice named their son after the African country in 2011 and Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon followed suit with a slightly altered name Moroccan in May of the same year. We’re not sure about Tyson, but we have a feeling Carey’s choice came from her “Moroccan Room” at the top of her penthouse in NYC where Cannon is said to have proposed.
4.) Tennessee. Reese Witherspoon and James Toth chose this Southern state as the name for their son this September. It’s likely they chose the moniker due to Witherspoon’s Nashville upbringing and perhaps as a nod to the famous playwright, Tennessee Williams. The actress is no stranger to naming offspring after famous people in history. Her daughter, Ava, is named after the late actress Ava Gardner.
