While Beyonce is the perfect name for a superstar, multi-platinum recording diva, have you ever wondered how the Texan native got her name?
You have? Us too, and Tuesday night Bey’s uncle, Roland Beyince, told The New York Post at the premiere of the singer’s new HBO documentary, Life is But a Dream, that the elaborate moniker can be traced back to his and her mama Tina’s surname.
“My sister Tina [Knowles] didn’t think we had enough boys in the family to keep the [Beyince] name going, so she gave Beyonce our last name as the first name,” he said.
But what about her and Jay-Z’s daughter, Blue Ivy?
Unfortunately, the jury’s still out on that one, but a few imaginative sleuths have a theory. Blue, the Internet as surmised, is in reference to Jay’s favorite color (he’s said as much via song lyrics, named an album The Blueprint), while the Ivy is a manipulation of the roman numeral IV. Four is a significant number for the couple. Her birthday is on Sept. 4, his Dec. 4, they were married on April 4, and the name of her fourth studio album is, you guessed it, 4.
What are your thoughts on Blue Ivy? Has it grown on you or are you a little disappointed?
